When it's windy or too hot: the basics
The wind blows all year, around 5 m/s in summer according to the figures consulted. It is not always a nuisance: it cools you down, and it is what draws kitesurfers. But it lifts sand on open beaches and can interrupt boat trips to exposed reefs. When the wind is strong, pick a sheltered hotel beach or an indoor plan. In strong heat, put outdoor things early in the morning and late in the day, and indoor visits between noon and 4 pm. For the month-by-month detail, see the best time to visit Hurghada.

Aquariums and museums, in the cool
The Hurghada Grand Aquarium, the oceanographic institute and its aquarium and the Hurghada Museum are indoor visits for the middle of the day. See each page for hours and prices. The Sindbad submarine is another way to see the sea without getting wet.
Malls and cafés
Senzo Mall and Hurghada Marina offer shops, restaurants and terraces that are more bearable in the evening. Both fit a plan after the beach.
Water parks, to face the heat
Nothing beats a slide at 35 °C. The big parks are tied to hotels: see Jungle Aqua Park, Titanic Aqua Park and Albatros Aqua Park. Day-ticket prices are not published: ask the hotel or an agency, and compare with the Hurghada travel budget.
Trips on and under the sea
When the wind is light, the sea remains the best cure for heat: see diving and snorkelling sites, Giftun Island and Paradise Island. When it is strong, it is the time for kitesurfing, for those who do it.
A plan for a windy day
In the morning, an aquarium visit; at midday, an air-conditioned lunch and a stop at Senzo Mall; late afternoon, a walk around the marina. For a typical sightseeing day, see what to do in Hurghada in one day.
