Hurghada Museum: collections, opening hours and ticket price (2026)

Updated on October 18, 2026

The Hurghada Museum is the first antiquities museum in the Red Sea governorate. It was created by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the governorate and the private sector, which funded the construction. It holds about 2,000 objects from ancient Egypt, the Greco-Roman period, the Jewish, Christian and Islamic periods and modern times, around the theme of beauty in Egypt. For visitors who do not go as far as Luxor, it is the only real cultural visit inside the town. The ticket costs 300 Egyptian pounds (EGP) for a foreign adult according to the ministry's official site, consulted in October 2026; allow an hour to an hour and a half.

Highlights

Objects are shown by major periods, from pharaonic statuary to Greco-Roman, Coptic and Islamic pieces. It is a small, very accessible museum, without the crowds of the big Cairo museums.

The modern building

The modern building

The light stone façade carries the museum's name in Arabic and English. The building is recent and air-conditioned: a good break when it is very hot.

The theme of beauty

The thread running through the visit is the notion of beauty in Egyptian culture, which makes a change from classic chronological displays.
