The four seasons in practice

Winter (December to February). Days are sunny and mild, around 21 to 23°C, but water at 21-23°C is cool: a 3 to 5 mm wetsuit is useful for long snorkelling sessions. It is the Christmas season and New Year in Hurghada, in high demand; book early.

Spring (March to May). The air warms up and the wind rises. It is a very good season, with pleasant excursions to the Valley of the Kings or the Giza pyramids in March and April. A sand wind (the khamsin) can sometimes raise dust in spring. In 2027, Sham el-Nessim falls on 3 May.

Summer (June to August). The heat is strong (35 to 37°C) and dry: you spend the day in the water or by the pool. The sea is at its warmest, ideal for diving and snorkelling; desert or Luxor excursions are best avoided or done very early. Hotels are full in July and August.

Autumn (September to November). The sea is warmest of the year in September, and the air becomes pleasant again from October. It is one of the best periods for the beach, diving and excursions.

Depending on what you want to do

  • Diving and snorkelling: all year, with good visibility; the water is warmest from June to October. See diving and snorkelling sites in Hurghada.
  • Boats and islands: May to October for swimming, all year for snorkelling; the sea can be rough on windy days, and some trips are then cancelled. See Giftun Island.
  • Water parks and children: May to October, when water and air are warm; see Jungle Aqua Park.
  • Upper Egypt excursions: October to April.
  • Ramadan: in 2027, around 8-9 February; see Ramadan in Hurghada.

What it costs depending on the season

Hotel and flight prices rise during European holidays: Christmas and New Year, February (school holidays in several countries), Easter, and summer. They are lower in November and, depending on offers, in January and September. Our guide travel budget in Hurghada gives benchmarks and where to stay in Hurghada compares the areas.
