El Gouna beaches and Mangroovy Beach: which to choose, kitesurfing and access

Updated on October 26, 2026

El Gouna has no large public beach: its beaches belong to hotels and beach clubs, spread over the islets and lagoons of the resort. Mangroovy Beach, in the north, is the best known for kitesurfing and windsurfing: a shallow lagoon, flat water near the shore, steady wind. Access conditions (entry for non-residents, minimum spend, equipment rental) vary from one place to another and were not confirmed for 2026, so check with the club or your hotel. From Hurghada, El Gouna is about 25 minutes by car (see El Gouna from Hurghada).

Highlights

The El Gouna lagoons

Calm, shallow water, ideal for children and swimming; it is what sets the resort apart from the open beach of Hurghada.

For a break before or after the beach: cafés and a waterfront walk.

Practical info

Tips

  • To sort the options: choose Mangroovy if you want to watch or practise kite; a hotel beach if you mostly want to swim in peace; the public beach of Hurghada if you want something free (see the public beach). To learn kitesurfing, the 2-hour introduction (about 70 US dollars, rated 4.1 to 4.4 out of 5) is fine to try; the 6-hour basic course over two days (about 245 to 348 US dollars depending on the date) is more serious. One traveller reported that an offshore wind makes beginnings hard: keep some spare dates. Full comparison: kitesurfing in El Gouna, which school. To sleep: where to stay in El Gouna.

How to get there

By car from Hurghada (about 25 minutes), or by tuk-tuk and the resort shuttle once there. See El Gouna.

Opening hours

Best: October to April for swimming, spring-summer for kite
Hotel beaches and clubs follow their own rules; kite schools usually from the morning to late afternoon, depending on the wind
