Downtown: the heart of the town
El Gouna has no classic town centre: Downtown is the district of pedestrian squares, shops and cafés. One guide describes it as the heart of the resort, with a mix of seafront hotels and guesthouses. It is the best base if you want to do everything without a taxi. The downside is a more limited choice of large beach hotels.
Abu Tig Marina: liveliest in the evening

The Abu Tig marina concentrates restaurants, bars and boat departures, with four-star hotels on the quay (for example the Ali Pasha Hotel, described as a four-star on the marina with two pools). You sleep in the middle of the action: perfect if you like going out, less so if you want silence. Ask for a room away from the terraces if you are a light sleeper.
Lagoon and seafront hotels

Lagoons and canals separate the districts, and this is where the quietest resorts are: gardens, pools and a private beach. Names cited by guides include The Chedi El Gouna (a seafront retreat with a private beach), Cooks Club (adults only, lively atmosphere) and Three Corners Ocean View (recommended for families). These hotels are further from Downtown: expect a taxi or shuttle ride to dine at the marina. Check whether the beach is directly accessible from the hotel.
Mangroovy Beach: for kitesurfing
Mangroovy beach is known for kitesurfing, with flat, shallow water near the shore and a reef further out. If you come for the sport, stay in a nearby hotel or in Downtown and plan a transfer each day. The schools are covered in our guide kitesurfing in El Gouna: which school.
