The options compared

The El Gouna waterfront

We could not confirm a scheduled Go Bus service to El Gouna: the lines we found connect Hurghada with Cairo and Alexandria. If you see one, check its stop before booking.

Taxi: negotiate before you get in

A taxi is the most common way. A transfer guide quotes about 20 to 25 euros (400 to 500 EGP) from Hurghada airport to El Gouna in 40 minutes; there is no fixed fare, and drivers often quote foreigners a higher price. Fix the round-trip price before getting in, carry small change and ask your hotel for the usual fare. See also getting around Hurghada.

Private transfer: fixed price

If you arrive at the airport with luggage, a private transfer to El Gouna avoids haggling: the listing we found states about 25 minutes, water and a meet and greet at the airport gate, from about 30 USD for a group of up to 3. One review mentions an old vehicle and a baby seat not provided: state your needs when booking. For airport details, see Hurghada airport and the centre.

Minibus: the cheapest

A booking site shows vans from Hurghada to El Gouna about every hour during the day, for about 9 USD per seat and a 30-minute trip. Times change: confirm them the day before and have cash ready.

Day excursion

If you only do a sightseeing round trip, the group excursion with a city tour leaves from your hotel (Hurghada, Makadi or Soma Bay) and brings you back. A speedboat version adds a sea trip and time at the marina. For a full visit at your own pace, see El Gouna in one day.

Abu Tig Marina

To check before leaving

  • Entering El Gouna: the resort is gated; one operator asks you to book at least 24 hours ahead to arrange the entry permit if you stay outside.
  • Return: plan it before leaving, especially in the evening.
  • To sleep there: see where to stay in El Gouna.
