El Gouna Downtown and Tamr Henna Square: what to do, where to eat and how to get there
Downtown (Kafr El Gouna) is El Gouna's pedestrian centre, about 20 km north of Hurghada: a palm-shaded square, Tamr Henna Square, with terraces, restaurants and shops around architecture inspired by Nubian villages. It is the liveliest district in the evening, cheaper than Abu Tig Marina, which you reach by tuk-tuk or boat. Allow half a day to an evening. For a first visit, the guided day trip with boat and tuk-tuk is the simplest (see El Gouna in a day).
Highlights

Tamr Henna Square
A palm-shaded square surrounded by terraces and shops; the mood is calm by day and lively in the evening.

The lanes of Downtown
Ochre houses, vaults and footbridges over the lagoons; you can walk from one side to the other in under an hour.

Tips
- To sort the options: eat in Downtown (gentler prices) and keep Abu Tig marina for a drink or a sunset walk, which is pricier. One blog recommends the Hydra fish restaurant in the centre (not verified). To sleep, see where to stay in El Gouna; for the whole town, see El Gouna. Many visitors come in the evening from Hurghada; plan the taxi back and agree the price in advance.
How to get there
From Hurghada, about 20 km by road, 25 minutes by taxi; see El Gouna from Hurghada. Inside El Gouna, tuk-tuks and shuttles connect Downtown to the marina.
