Kom Ombo Temple: ticket, opening hours and visit from Hurghada
Kom Ombo Temple, set on a bend of the Nile about 45 km north of Aswan, is a double temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and to Haroeris (Horus the Elder): everything comes in pairs, with two entrances and two sanctuaries. It dates from the Ptolemaic period. The visit takes about an hour. There is no day trip from Hurghada: Kom Ombo is visited with Edfu between Luxor and Aswan, on a cruise or by transfer, see the 2-3 day cruise from Hurghada and Edfu Temple.
Highlights

The double sanctuary
Each half has its own court, halls and reliefs, one for Sobek, the other for Haroeris.

The crocodile museum
Next to the temple, mummified crocodiles found in the region recall the cult of Sobek.
Practical info
Tips
- The listings of two tours give 450 EGP for Kom Ombo (Edfu 550), payable by card; this is not an official source and fares change: confirm them. Bring a torch or your phone light to read the reliefs in the low rooms. Cruises stop here in the late afternoon, when the site is very busy.
How to get there
Kom Ombo is on the Luxor-Aswan road, about 45 km from Aswan and 65 km from Edfu (approximate distances). From Hurghada you have to go through Luxor (290 to 320 km, four to five hours), see Hurghada to Luxor: bus or transfer. The cruise is still the simplest option; a private Luxor-Edfu-Kom Ombo day trip is offered from Luxor.
