Our choice
- To see Luxor without sleeping there: the day trip with Valley of the Kings and Tutankhamun's tomb; full comparison in Luxor from Hurghada: which tour.
- To sleep in Luxor: a private transfer if you are two or more, the minibus if you travel alone. Then plan Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Luxor Temple over two days.
- To continue to Aswan: the 2-3 day cruise saves organising everything.
What to know before you go
- Real duration: a booking site advertises 4 hours by bus, but one traveller counted 6. Allow a margin, especially for a train or flight afterwards.
- Driver: reviews mention a lost driver or a change of vehicle on the way; ask for the driver's name and keep the agency's number.
- Paying: prefer a booking with free cancellation; do not pay cash in advance.
- Road: via Safaga and Qena; carry water and a snack. See also getting around Hurghada.
