Luxor Temple: ticket, opening hours and visit from Hurghada
Luxor Temple, on the east-bank corniche, is the only major Egyptian temple set in the middle of a living city: Ramesses II's pylon, an obelisk, Amenhotep III's colonnade and the Abu el-Haggag mosque built inside. The visit takes one to one and a half hours. From Hurghada it is almost always the last stop of a day trip (about four hours' drive each way) and the easiest to fit in after Karnak and the Valley of the Kings; see Luxor from Hurghada: which tour. Small-group day trips with the Tutankhamun tomb are the most booked from Hurghada.
Highlights

The pylon and the obelisk
Ramesses II's façade is guarded by seated colossi and one obelisk. Its twin stands in Paris, on Place de la Concorde.

The avenue of sphinxes
It linked this temple to Karnak over about 2.7 km; it reopened in 2021 and starts in front of the entrance (see Karnak).

Tips
- An August 2026 guide quotes the adult foreign ticket at 500 EGP, saying it follows the Ministry's figures; older sources mention 160 to 180 EGP, so confirm the fare on site or with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. Students usually pay half with their card. Many Egyptian sites take cards only: bring one. Ask your guide to leave you time for the colonnade and Amenhotep III's court.
How to get there
Luxor is about 290 to 320 km from Hurghada, four to five hours by road; see Hurghada to Luxor: bus or transfer. The temple is downtown on the Nile corniche, a 10-minute walk from the station and 3 km from Karnak.
