Blue Hole Dahab: price, safety, snorkelling and access from Hurghada
The Blue Hole in Dahab, in South Sinai, is a submarine sinkhole close to the shore, famous with divers but also an easy snorkelling site in the neighbouring lagoon. It is about 7 km north of Dahab, on the other side of the Red Sea from Hurghada: it is not an excursion from Hurghada. You have to go to Sharm el-Sheikh (a flight of about an hour; a ferry link may exist but is unconfirmed, see Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh) and then count about 90 km by road to Dahab. If you want diving from Hurghada, see the discovery dive in Hurghada and the dive sites.
Highlights

The lagoon and the Saddle
Snorkelling is done in the shallow lagoon near the beach, not in the sinkhole.

The Arch
An underwater opening whose ceiling is at about 55 m: for technical divers only; most fatal accidents involve divers who tried it without training.

Tips
- Stay in the lagoon if you snorkel and never swim through the Arch without technical training. The entrance fee varies: a recent guide says 25 US dollars per person in cash (military post and site), older guides 10 dollars, and a snorkelling site said access was free from the beach in 2023: confirm before going. Day trips from Sharm el-Sheikh (jeep, Coloured Canyon, Blue Hole) are offered from about 17 to 27 US dollars; diving is generally not included. The trip best placed in GetYourGuide search is a desert safari with lunch in Dahab.
How to get there
The Blue Hole is about 7 km north of Dahab (20 minutes by taxi). Dahab is about 90 km from Sharm el-Sheikh, served by direct buses. From Hurghada, flight then road: no direct link as a day trip.
