Banana Island in Luxor: felucca ride on the Nile, price and tips in 2026

Updated on October 26, 2026

Banana Island is a farming island on the Nile near Luxor, planted with banana trees, mango trees and palms: you come by felucca or motor boat for a ride of 1 to 2 hours, with tea, a walk around the garden and often lunch (extra). The most booked option is the private sunset felucca, 2 hours with tea and hotel pickup, rated 4.9 out of 5 (about 320 to 400 reviews) and listed from 29 US dollars. A half-day motor boat trip with an island visit starts at about 25 dollars: one traveller reported it was a motor boat and not a felucca, and that the whole outing lasted about 1.5 hours. Prices on the spot are not fixed: negotiate before boarding.

Tips

  • Choose the sunset felucca if you want the light on the Nile; the motor boat ride is faster and leaves more time on the island. Check the type of boat before paying and what the price includes (tea, lunch, island entry). The two-day Luxor tours (east and west banks) sometimes include an hour of felucca, without going to the island. If time is short, combine with the Luxor temple and the Valley of the Kings.

How to get there

Departure is from the Nile corniche in Luxor or from the West Bank; most offers include hotel pickup. From Hurghada you first have to reach Luxor: see Hurghada to Luxor.

Opening hours

Best: At sunset, October to April
No fixed hours; feluccas leave on demand, mostly in the late afternoon
