Abydos Temple (Seti I): day trip from Luxor, ticket and visit in 2026
Abydos Temple is the temple of Seti I (19th dynasty, about 1290 BC), completed by Ramesses II: some of the finest reliefs in Egypt, with seven chapels and the famous king list. It is about 150 to 160 km north of Luxor (sources range from 135 to 170 km), roughly 3 hours by road: you go on a day trip, almost always with Dendera. Allow 1 to 1.5 hours on site. Ticket: about 300 to 400 EGP for the Seti I and Ramesses II temples according to a French guide, no official price found; hours not found.
Highlights

Practical info
Tips
- The Osireion, behind the temple, is mostly seen from above: access inside is very restricted (one guide mentions an expensive special permit). The most practical is the day trip "Dendera and Abydos from Luxor", the most booked for this pair. It makes a 10 to 12 hour day: start early. Check whether tickets are included. From Hurghada, Luxor is already about 4 hours away by road: better to sleep in Luxor than to chain the day.
How to get there
Abydos is near the town of Balyana, about 150 to 160 km from Luxor; the road goes through Dendera, an hour and a half between the two sites. See Hurghada to Luxor to reach Luxor.
