Uber, taxi or transfer: which to choose
Uber is the simplest in town: displayed price, no discussion. At the airport, the pickup point is a few minutes' walk from the terminal; some drivers wrongly claim Uber "does not work here". With lots of luggage, children or a night flight, a transfer booked in advance avoids any negotiation (see airport and city centre).
If you would rather not look for a taxi on arrival (night flight, family, lots of luggage, first visit), Welcome Pickups offers a private transfer booked in advance: a fixed price agreed before you travel, an English-speaking driver waiting in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name, and flight tracking if you are delayed. Price seen on their site in October 2026, HRG → Hurghada: from €13 for a sedan. Read the cancellation terms shown on their site before booking. If you travel light and are happy to follow the meter or negotiate, a taxi taken on the spot costs less.
Common scams
- No meter: fix the price before getting in and pay in small notes.
- "Your hotel is closed": the driver takes you to a shop; refuse.
- Prices in dollars: insist on EGP.
- Detour: follow the route on your phone. For the rest, see scams and safety and transport in Hurghada.
