How to choose
- Compatibility: the phone must accept eSIM and be unlocked.
- Data: maps, messages and photos fit in a few GB; video and tethering use far more.
- Duration: the plan must cover your whole stay, including excursions to Luxor or Marsa Alam.
- Avoid doubling up: if your mobile plan already includes Egypt, check the roaming price before buying.
Installing the eSIM
- Install it before departure, on Wi-Fi, with the QR code or the seller's app.
- Keep your main line for calls and turn off its mobile data to avoid roaming.
- On arrival, activate the eSIM and data roaming on that line. If the connection does not start, restart the phone.
On the ground
Coverage is good in Hurghada and in hotels. On the desert road, for example to Luxor, the signal can weaken: download offline maps before leaving. See also money and tipping, before you go: laws, bans, formalities and travel insurance for Egypt.
