Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM): 2026 ticket, hours and visit from Hurghada
The Grand Egyptian Museum, in Giza about 2 km from the pyramids, is the world's largest museum devoted to a single civilisation and houses the whole Tutankhamun treasure. Most 2026 sources give the adult foreign ticket at 1,450 EGP (about 30 US dollars), and it is bought online: no sales at the gate. Allow three to five hours. From Hurghada the simplest way is a tour with a return flight to Cairo: see Cairo by plane from Hurghada; but the museum takes half a day more than a one-day tour that also sees the pyramids leaves.
Highlights

The grand staircase
A gallery of statues and stelae climbs to large windows facing the pyramids. A colossal statue of Ramesses II stands in the centre.

The Tutankhamun treasures
The galleries bring together for the first time the whole tomb collection: gold mask, thrones and chariots. The mask is the most requested piece.

Tips
- Book on the museum's official site (visit-gem.com): several similar domains are not authorised. A reduced fare (about 730 EGP) exists for students aged 13 to 25 and children aged 6 to 12, with proof. Press articles announce a price rise on 1 November (1,830 EGP for foreigners) without a clear year: check the price when you book. The best-rated entry-only offer on GetYourGuide has over 3,000 reviews (4.8, from about 30 US dollars).
How to get there
The museum is in Giza, near the pyramids road, 30 to 45 minutes from central Cairo. From Hurghada: a flight of about an hour to Cairo then road, or 5 to 6 hours by road, see the Giza pyramids from Hurghada and Hurghada to Cairo: bus or transfer.
