The essentials
- Sun: high-factor cream, hat, sunglasses, UV top for the sea.
- Sea: reef shoes (coral and sea urchins), mask and snorkel if you have your own, beach towel.
- First aid: see health in Hurghada; add mosquito repellent and something for diarrhoea.
- Water: a bottle, because tap water is not for drinking: water and toilets.
Adapter and phone
Egyptian sockets are type C or F, 220 V, 50 Hz: an adapter helps for British or American devices. See plugs and voltage in Egypt. For connectivity an eSIM avoids roaming fees: eSIM for Egypt.
What to wear off the beach
In the streets, the market and mosques, cover shoulders and knees; see dress code and mosques. For the season, see weather by month.
FAQ
Should I bring cash? A little local money for tips and the market, the rest by card.
Are flip-flops enough? Not for the sea: coral cuts, take closed shoes.
