What it is like inside
You climb a narrow, low passage where you must stoop, then the taller Grand Gallery, to the King's Chamber, which holds an empty granite sarcophagus. The air is hot and stale, the space tight: this is the part that frightens claustrophobic visitors. Bring closed shoes, few belongings and water. If the idea worries you, stay outside: the outside is just as striking.
Booking and planning
Interior tickets are sold in limited slots, especially from October to April: book ahead with an agency or arrive early. From Hurghada, the Cairo day is done by plane or bus: see Luxor or Cairo from Hurghada and Cairo by plane; a one-day flight excursion with pyramids, Sphinx and museum can be booked online: Cairo day trip by flight. See also the Giza pyramids from Hurghada.
